Isolated tribe spotted in Brazil

The tribe was photographed as its members pointed bows and arrows at an aeroplane flying overhead. Image: Gleison Miranda, Funai.

The government said the name of the tribe was not known but the warriors were strong and healthy, which we can see maybe it s true.

The photos are from a remote part of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil’s Acre region.

The government said the images would prove those who doubted the tribe’s existence wrong.

More than half the world’s 100 uncontacted tribes live in Brazil or Peru.

Pointing bows and arrows up at the camera.

These remarkable pictures of Envira Indians were taken by Brazilian government officials during several flights over a remote part of Brazil’s Acre state on the border between Brazil and Peru.

Painted a bright orange, two members of the tribe emerged from their huts to threaten the helicopter as it flew low over their small village.

Others could be seen in the background, apparently startled by the presence of the noisy machine in their skies.

“We did the over-flight to show their houses, to show they are there, to show they exist,’ said Jose Carlos dos Reis Meirelles, an expert on “uncontacted” tribes, who works for the Brazilian government’s Indian affairs department.

“This is very important because there are some who doubt their existence.”

Mr Meirelles said the tribe lived in six small communities, each with about six communal houses, in an area known as the Terra Indigena Kampa e Isolados do Envira, close to the Peru border.

In spite of the threat of the encroaching world, the number of Envira Indians is thought to be increasing, Mr Meirelles said.

This could lead to conflict between the displaced tribes and an estimated 500 Indians already living on the Brazilian side, he said. Indians were also susceptible to contracting diseases from outsiders.

Survival International, a group London-based group which defends the rights of tribal people, estimates there are more than 100 remaining isolated indigenous tribes worldwide, with more than half in either Peru or Brazil.

“These pictures are further evidence that uncontacted tribes really do exist,” said Stephen Corry, director of Survival International.

“The world needs to wake up to this, and ensure that their territory is protected in accordance with international law. Otherwise, they will soon be made extinct.”

The government says it wants to help protect the tribe’s land.

‘Monumental crime’ (From BBC)

Survival International said that although this particular group is increasing in number, others in the area are at risk from illegal logging.

The photos were taken during several flights over one of the most remote parts of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil’s Acre region.

They show tribe members outside thatched huts, surrounded by the dense jungle, pointing bows and arrows up at the camera.

He described the threats to such tribes and their land as “a monumental crime against the natural world” and “further testimony to the complete irrationality with which we, the ‘civilised’ ones, treat the world”.

Disease is also a risk, as members of tribal groups that have been contacted in the past have died of illnesses that they have no defence against, ranging from chicken pox to the common cold.

A UFO exploded in mid air – showering a small Vietnamese island with metal-like debris.

The unidentified flying object is NOT believed to be a plane as none have been reported missing in the area.

Investigators are working on the theory the explosion happened five miles above the ground.

A search of Phu Quoc island off southern Vietnam uncovered shards of grey “metal” up to four feet long.

Unexplained explosion … map showing island

Soldiers combed the area for clues yesterday as airlines in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand insisted none of their aircraft were missing in the area.

Villagers in the nearby Cambodian province of Kampot said on Tuesday that they had heard a loud explosion.

A day later they found chunks of material near the coastline.

After the explosion Kung Mony, of Cambodia’s Air Force, claimed it could have been a foreign plane but he later backed down from the theory. One explanation could be that the plane was a military one – but none of the nearby countries has admitted to losing any aircraft.

Another report from The SUN  Published: 28 May 2008

A UFO has EXPLODED in mid-air over a southern Vietnamese island, according to reports.

Villagers say they heard a loud blast yesterday and later found shards of metal near the island’s coastline.

The sensational revelations come one day after neighbouring Cambodia’s air force retracted a report of a mysterious plane crash.

The Vietnam News Agency said residents of Phu Quoc island, six miles off the coast of the Cambodian province of Kampot, found shards of grey metal, including one 1.5metres long.

Wreckage

“The explosion happened at about five miles above the ground, and perhaps it was a plane, but authorities could not identify whether it was a civil or military aircraft,” the VNA claimed.

The official state news agency added that soldiers were sent out to look for the wreckage and survivors, and local authorities contacted airlines in Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, but received no reports of missing aircraft.

Villagers in Kampot also said they heard a loud explosion yesterday and today found small chunks of metal near their coast.

Kung Mony, deputy commander of Cambodia’s Air Force, yesterday said he had been told of a foreign plane crashing in Kampot province, but later backed off his claims of an aircraft accident.

Tasteless … tacky bathroom with David model and swan taps

GAUDY help us! Summer’s almost here so it must be time to unveil . . . the house that taste forgot.

Yep, love it or loathe it, the endless TV marathon/drivel (delete where applicable) that is Big Brother returns to our screens on June 5.

And a first glimpse at the new set proves that all that glitters definitely isn’t gold.

The garish, bling-ridden bathroom looks like the place Liberace went to die.

Festooned with gilded swan taps, flowers, champagne bottles and a bronze cast of Michaelangelo’s David, the entire room is done up with a marble effect last seen in Dorian’s Chigwell home in Birds Of A Feather.

What I can say? HORRIBLE!!!
Eyes-spy … new entrance for BB9

House arrest … cell-like rooms

The housemates will get another shock when they see the shared bedroom, which looks more like an Eastern Bloc jail cell.

It has “locker” walls and eight beds shared between 12 housemates, each kitted out with scratchy wool blankets.

With any luck the grime-glitz contrast will drive inmates mad within days.

In another twist, show bosses have built the bathroom next to the lounge.

A source tells us: “There’s a huge window between the bathroom and the lounge, so you’ll be able to see everyone. It’s going to be highly pervy.”

The finalists were picked late last week.

BIG Brother is coming back and it’s going to be bigger, sexier and sillier than ever. They claimed.

BIG BROTHER 9 start date confirmed: 5th June

New BBLB Presenters Announced

It’s now a case of “little brother and little sister” with George Lamb and Zezi set to take the reigns of the ultimate BB fan show this summer.

E4 have started airing the first advert for BB spin-off show Big Brother’s Little Brother. The advert features the new hosts George Lamb and Zezi Ifore in an army training camp.

Here is the advert for your viewing pleasure:

………………….YAWN…

I myself don’t find BB entertaining as it use to be, but that’s just my opinion. If the programme this year reverts to its “back to basics” policy I would consider watching it from time to time. I have seen in the news that a contestant’s cousin from a few years back — “Get Grace Out”s cousin.. She’s supposed to be making claims that she’s a bigger bitch than Grace…..— is being held in reserve for this years show, or may even be a contestant already. So as things stand there not really looking far and wide or using a cross section of society already, so it would seem that the show is doomed to failure. If channel 4 cant go out amongst the general public to source contestants, how close are we really to having “ normal” people in the house.
All the house mates will be mildly attractive, or have slept with a football player, be a stripper, be mid way through some surgical operation to change there gender, will come out regarding there sexuality, during a task , or will be down right obnoxious, just to get attention and a good newspaper deal when they get thrown out
Dull is not good TV, but channel 4 need to find that fine line between good and down right stupid, because they no they need big personalities to make everyone watch

Still I’ll give it a try before I crucify it, will see you all on launch night!

Russian singer Dima Bilan has won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Bilan is one of Russia’s biggest pop stars and his heartfelt ballad Believe, produced by US R&B star Timbaland, gave Russia its first ever Eurovision win.

Abraham received six points from San Marino – who were taking part for the first time – and eight from Ireland.

Ukraine’s Ani Lorak came second with her energetic disco track Shady Lady, followed by Greece with upbeat pop song Secret Combination by Kalomira.

But British talent show runner-up Andy Abraham came last with his song Even If, gaining just 14 points.

Germany and Poland also received 14 points each, but they officially finished above the UK because their top scores in a single round were higher.

Dima Bilan won with a stage show that included Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko performing on a small ice circle.

Bilan is a well-known performer throughout Russia and beyond, having been named best artist at the country’s MTV Awards for the past three years in a row.

He took part in Eurovision in 2006, finishing second behind Finnish rock monsters Lordi.

He has recorded an album in English with Timbaland, including a duet with Canadian singer Nelly Furtado, and hopes to use it to break into the international market later this year.

This year’s other entrants included Latvian pirates, a Finnish heavy rock group, a 75-year-old Croatian rapper and French dance musician Sebastian Tellier, who has worked with Daft Punk and Air.

Swedish singer Charlotte Perrelli, who won the event in 1999, was another hot tip and was picked as the winner in a Europe-wide BBC poll before the event.

But she failed to become the first female singer to win the contest twice.

The show was opened in front of 20,000 fans at the Belgrade Arena by last year’s winner Marija Serifovic.

The 20 countries that came through the semi-finals joined hosts Serbia plus the UK, France, Germany and Spain – the contest’s four biggest backers.

UK has a massive music background still it fails on eurovision. how come? I have to say this is slightly better than the shite we’ve had the past few years. But still shit. I don’t like Dima’s song too much, but Schooh last year and now this… we need someone like westlife to step up!

And, Sir Terry Wogan (who has been Eurovision commentator for more than 30 years) said he may quit as the BBC’s Eurovision commentator, what a sad news! He should shut up and disappear from TV at least 10 yrs ago! He said: “Andy Abraham gave, I think, the performance of his life with a song that certainly deserved far more points …”. Really? Maybe binman Andy just not talent enough to  deserve more points, he shouldnt been choosen at the first place. This 43-year-old ex-dustman could put the best of us to sleep. He is a joke, I really think my local council need him more than national TV. This “Even If” really embarrassing – like something from the early 80s, definitely your time, unfortunately, its overed.

Then, Sir Terry Wogan added: “Indeed, western European participants have to decide whether they want to take part from here on in because their prospects are poor.”  Come on, Sir, theres nothing about western European, those Eastern they love western European, they just dont like UK, UK only. I do  agreed it become neigbour selections, but look at us, we even cant get vote from our neigbour, because we r America’s bitch, because we have many arrogant, ignorant, stupid people here, like you Sir Terry Wogan.

Lets watch last 2 yrs entries again, Sir Terry Wogan, do you really think these shit deserved top 10?

Stop complian that its all about political, I dont buy it, If we still want play this game, it s time start taking Eurovision more seriously, but we need to go that extra distance like France, whose entry is by legitimate dance star Sebastien Tellier. Daft Punk have produced it, that’s how serious Le Frogs are. Maybe we could send a genuinely good artist with a decent song, instead of trying to second guess what we reckon the suckers in Europe will fall for.

And lets see Sir Terry Wogan announced wrong winner of Eurovision UK 2007, Wogan you bloated, talentless idiot!

On the edge: The daredevil takes pictures of the sunset before leaping

this really the moment a photographer makes a daredevil jump – or is it a hoax?

The dramatic photographs were published this week but now rumours are circulating on the internet that it could be an elaborate stunt.
At first it seems the man, wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and flip-flops, risks his life to take a picture of the sunset. Photographer Hans van de Vorst, who took the photos of another photographer at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, told of gasps from other tourists as the man jumped between two rocks – with a one kilometre drop below.

But according to one website, Hemmy.net, it is no leap of faith.

The truth it claims is that the photos were taken at a clever angle which fools viewers into thinking it is a big drop.

In Van de Horst’s version of events, he says minutes earlier the man had been casually sunbathing on a rock column – and even downed a six-pack of beer.

A crowd of onlookers then gasped as he tucked his camera and tripod under his arm and leapt across the 2.4m wide (8ft) gap – grasping hold of the opposing rock face with just one hand.

Canyon

Van de Horst, a marketing consultant, from Veenendaal in Holland, says he watched in disbelief as the man took a picture of the Arizona sunset before making the leap.

‘When we arrived he was just taking in the scenery and people were discussing how he managed to get on there in the first place,’ he said.

Canyon

‘Nobody even bothered with the sunset – everyone’s eyes were on this man and how he was going to get off the rock.

‘He looked really relaxed and casually stood up before jumping across the gap.

‘There was complete silence as he packed his things up and then a few gasps when he jumped. ‘He didn’t grab the rock properly the first time and slipped back about half a metre before clinging on to it. Even then he didn’t look fazed.’

Mr Van de Vorst, 47, said the drop was more than one kilometre.
