Late star Jeff Buckley scored his biggest ever hit last night when Hallelujah shot to number tow in the UK chart.

It finished just behind the version of the same song by X Factor winner Alexandra Burke, It is the first time that two versions of the same song have taken the top two positions in the chart for 51 years.

The last time such a feat occurred was in 1957 when Tommy Steele and Guy Mitchell held the top two positions with Singin’ The Blues when the charts were in their infancy.

Buckley’s 1994 version of Hallelujah, from his only complete album Grace, found a new lease of life thanks to an online campaignin response to the track being given to the X Factor victor. Buckley, who drowned in 1997, was not the only star whose archive version of the track made the chart – Leonard Cohen, the song’s author, was at number 36 with his original performance.

Burke’s track sold 576,000 copies in a week making it the fastest selling single by a female solo artist, beating another X Factor winner Leona Lewis’s A Moment Like This. Buckley sold 81,000 copies of Hallelujah simply on download.

Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ – from his 1994 debut ‘Grace’ – is currently at number 43 in the charts, climbing six places from number 49 last week (November 30). The song has not been re-released physically.

There are several protest groups on social network sites such as Facebook urging fans of the song to buy Buckley‘s version and boycott the ‘X Factor’ one

Buckley’s version needs to be heard by a new generation before they start believing EOGHAN QUIGG, or whoever wins the ITV1 talent show, is the first person to sing it.

Fans of Buckley — who drowned in the Mississippi in 1997 — have launched an internet campaign to get it in the charts.

It is already on the verge of the Top 40 and with your help can become a surprise Christmas hit.

So if you love it or haven’t ever heard it, get downloading — it’s absolutely incredible.

I am mildly amused by SIMON COWELL choosing a song for his winner with the line: “You don’t really care for music, do you.”

But there is nothing wrong with new interpretations of timeless songs and it’s a great choice for The X Factor winner.

Buckley’s version is, of course, a cover too. But before kids start asking their mates if they’ve bought “that Eoghan Quigg song”, the best version of this classic needs to get out there.

Buckley earned his first US No1 posthumously in March after JASON CASTRO performed the song on American Idol.

If the Yanks can turn Buckley’s version into a chart smash, so can we.

Bryn teamed up with co-writer/producer Jarrad Rogers and production team Midi Mafia (Jennifer Lopez, Talib Kweli, Nelly) to make his debut album My World, which will be released in late August 2008. Midi Mafia recently secured the exclusive rights to use samples from the Stax Records Catalogue, and has used some of these for the first time ever on Bryn’s album.

My guess is each webmaster or blogger use at least one web service to keep track & monitor web traffics. There are tones of free web traffic checkers out there, each a unique of its own. Most of them have something in common though; installation of script is required to generate traffic reports. Installing too many tends to slow the site down and cause inaccuracy in overall results. It’s better to stick with one or two which matches your requirements the most. Here’s by far 14 most used web statistics tools I’ve come to known.

AWStats

AWStats is probably one of the few good ones that don’t require client side script installation. It’s installed on the server side and provides comprehensive logs of traffics accessing particular websites. It’s free and if your web host doesn’t have, request them to install.

StatsCounter

StatCounter is widely used among most tech non-savvy web owners. It gives real time statistics of your web traffic but the drawback of it is, you will need to pay if your traffics exceed 1,500,000 pagviews a month. Well, if you have that much of traffic you wouldn’t mind paying to continue don’t you?

SiteMeter

SiteMeter is another very popular traffic tracking provider. It’s used by a lot of notable websites such as lifehacker, read/write web, gawker, gizmodo, kotaku, etc. And like StatsCounter provides 2 different charges of services; the free and the paid premium. Free services get all basic statistics a webmaster could possibly need but in case you want more comprehensive analysis on your traffics, you will need to get the premium account.

Google Analytics

This is perhaps the most commonly used and most famous web traffic tractor every build. It’s free with functions I’ll take me pages to describe. Google Analytics gives very accurate statistics on not only traffics but also keep track of almost everything a cookie can store (browsers, type of OS, plugins installed, etc) on each unique visitors. It is also used to keep track of Google Adwords performance. And with the new look recently upgraded, it’s certainly better in terms user friendliness and navigations.

FeedBurner

What makes Feedburner different from the rest is that it keeps track of traffic coming from feed readers. Feedburner users can show off how many people are currently subscribing to them by displaying a chiklet on websites. Feedburner’s FAN is also the only traffic counter that offers publishers to make a profit from their traffic. With the recent acquisition of Feedburner by Google, it could have just helped Google to strengthen their domination on traffic counter. Google AdSense on Feedburner is what many AdSense publishers looking forward to see after this acquisition.

103Bees

103bees started off earlier this year but already gain much reputation because they are one among few that concentrates on search engine traffic analyzation. It is one of my favorite tool to measure and check my daily traffic. Check out my reviews on 103bees.

Performancing Metrics

Performancing gives you real time readings of your web traffics however if you want to use it for free for long run, your pageviews/day must not exceed 1000. Upon sign up, Performancing gives you 21days full premium access, after that you will have to pay ($2/month) to continue. If you have high traffic, try using Performancing metrics. If your traffics are among the Top 20, you will earn yourself a PR7 link back from Performancing.com main page.

Reinvigorate

I feel in love with reinvigorate the first time I encounter it. ReInvigorate has nice interface design with traffic charts nicely placed. It makes charts very understandable, very easy for comparison and analysis. However, it’s currently a beta and only available through invitations. Send in a e-mail and let’s hope they will send you an invitation to try it out.

Spotplex

Spotplex shows you not only real time traffic stats, but also how you rank among bloggers of your niche that use Spotplex plugin. Head over to Spotplex website to check the most popular articles of the day, most popular within specific niche or your Spotplex rank today.

WordPress.com Stats

WordPress.com Stats calculates your traffic within WordPress. However Automattic Statistics resides on WordPress.com’s Dashboard. After installing the plugin, there will be an extra button call Blog Stats that will lead you to your statistics in WordPress.com.

OneStats

By putting one small OneStats banner on your website, you not only get to see your web traffic but also get to compete against websites from your country in the OneStats chart. OneStats chart is a very good place to gain publicity and its monitor by many webmasters. It’s ranked based on pageviews so it’s a bit unfair as forums and photo albums have a higher pageview rate.

Counterized II for WordPress

Counterize II upgrades from its previous version to give more traffic data. It embedded inside your WordPress Dashboard, giving you traffic information like IP, timestamp, visited URI, referring URI, total hits, unique hits, etc. All you need to do is install the plugin and view your stats inside Dashboard.

GoStats provides not only the normal stats we want to see, it also comes with a prediction figure. The tab navigation from text view to graphic view comes simply in handy. Another good visitors tracking system worth checking out.

XiTi Free

XiTi Free offers the basic indicators you need to give you a global view of your site’s traffic. Personal pages, blogs, association sites, webzines. Already used by over 200,000 sites, this version gives you the reliability and credibility of XiTi, recognized as a trusted third-party service. Best thing is No limits on the number of pages audited.

THE public is making its mark on graffiti artist Banksy’s first British exhibition in three years as a whole street has been transformed into an art exhibition.

The Cans Festival, a three-day street party of stencil art, kicks off yesterday in an old tunnel formerly used by taxis, which was vacated when Eurostar left its Waterloo terminal in London.

Artists from as far afield as Brazil, Canada and Australia are also taking part.

Huge installations include smashed up cars, a CCTV camera-laden tree, an ice cream van, a cut-out of the Queen, and statues as well as artwork on the walls.

Boris Johnson also features in murals by a Dutch artist named Hugo Kaagman.

In one piece – We Need Change – the politician’s face appears by a picture of a Smurf.

From today the public can add to the exhibition with their own stencilling.

Banksy said: “Graffiti doesn’t always spoil buildings, in fact it’s the only way to improve a lot of them.
“In the space of a few hours with a couple of hundred cans of paint I’m hoping we can transform a dark forgotten filth pit into an oasis of beautiful art.”

The free event is open to the public from 10am until 10pm on Monday.

After that, the installations will be removed from the road, but the artwork will remain on the walls.
The exhibition takes place in Leake Street, near Waterloo Station.

Banksy’s pieces include a classical-style statues with a twist – one named David In Flak Jacket and another called Homeless Venus. Another statue is named Brew Period and is painted in camouflage colours and holding a can of Special Brew

Sarah Graham painting childhood memories

Success is sweet for Sarah Graham, who has gone from working on the pick’n'mix counter to being a highly-paid artist.

The 30-year-old makes a living from painting the sweets and toys of her childhood, from Black Jacks and Fruit Salad to Sindy dolls.

Her first job, when she was 16, was at Woolworths in the pick’n'mix sweets section. She’s moved on somewhat and, now, her colourful, photo-realistic oil paintings can sell for up to £10,000.

Miss Graham, who has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, said she was inspired by the Pop Art of the 1960s and 1970s, when Andy Warhol immortalised Campbell’s soup tins amongst other things.

Fauxto, Picnic and other online photo editors may soon find the going very tough is Adobe is all set to introduce a very cool online version of Adobe Photoshop (called Photoshop Express or PX) that’s free and requires just a web browser with the Flash plug-in.

Bruce earlier said that the web version of Photoshop may not be as feature-rich as the desktop Photoshop but still offers better image editing options than the existing desktop image editors – Photoshop Express is something in between Picasa and Photoshop.
